Building a Sense of Community The Florida Wax Journey
When the editors at Wax Fusion decided to feature a piece on the advantages of forming a local IEA chapter, Florida Wax was the first name that came up. Francine Michel: Seasoned Observers
January 4 - March 10, 2023
Museum of Florida Art & Culture
With a unique painting process involving the use of rice paper, ink, encaustic, and watercolor, Saint Petersburg artist Francine Michel creates abstract paintings based on observations of actual plants and trees that for one reason or another stood out to her in her travels. Michel’s translations of flora at different stages of their development and at different times of the year allow us to understand more deeply the complexities of plant life and the character of their forms. Using unexpected colors, shapes, and perspectives, Michel’s paintings in Seasoned Observers reveal the diversity of personalities evident in what Michel considers to be the most interesting plants and trees that she has found in Florida.

The show was live and can be found on Youtube.
